Isles of Shoals straddles the border of New Hampshire and Maine. The lighthouse is actually on White Island, which is among the group of islands. In April 2007 the covered walkway was demolished by a storm. Years later the wood and materials were ferried close to the island and then flown by helicopter the rest of the way to the island. In the fall of 2011 the walkway was rebuilt. On a clear day one can distantly view the Isles of Shoals lighthouse from the Cape Neddick (aka The Nubble) lighthouse. The Isles of Shoals Steamship Company and Portsmouth Harbor Cruises offer lighthouse boat tours to a few lighthouses. The Granite State Whale Watch has a trip to the island also.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We were on the Friends of Boston Harbor Islands Fall Foliage & Lighthouse Extravaganza cruise. We departed from Long Wharf in Boston, MA. Our cruise was six hours long and we photographed 18 lighthouses. The seas were rough for most of the 100 mile trip and many of us were very sea sick. It was difficult to gather enough mental and physical strength to leave your chair to shoot the lighthouses. Photographed it: October 2, 2004
