We were interviewed by NJN News' Marie DeNoia on January 9, 2007. We talked about our book and the importance of the lighthouses. The Absecon Lighthouse was about to have it's 150th birthday in a few days. Frank Foley was the camera man. The piece ran this night a few times. We were also filmed while standing outside tower looking down at the view. This is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey. |

Just days before the deadline for this newsletter, I heard from Tom and Christine Cardaci (aka The Lighthouse Hunters) that they had also completed their 40+3 quest. The Cardacis were able to take a ride on the Skipjack Martha Lewis and get out to Fishing Battery, the final lighthouse on their list. By the time you read this, they should have posted the photos from their adventure on their website www.thelighthousehunters.com Our congratulations to the Cardacis. |

Denys Bucksten, a Freelance Reporter & Photographer for the Chicago Tribune did a phone interview with Christine Cardaci. His article was about the Waukegan lighthouse graffiti. Christine Cardaci, who along with husband Tom, have photographed 1,378 lighthouses in North America as a hobby and a passion for preservation of these landmarks, said one movement is local bodies creating 501c3 nonprofit groups to raise money for repair and maintenance of lighthouses. "It can involve a lot of red tape and years of determination and money," said Christine, in an interview last week. "There are repairs and rust and erosion and maintaining landscaping. But (local groups) want to maintain these lighthouses as things of beauty and (sometimes) tourism." |
