The Woodsum Brothers built the original three lighthouses on the lake in the 1890s. Lake Sunapee is ten miles long and three miles wide. The lighthouse has some work done in 1965 and then again in 1983. In October 2003 the lighthouse was lifted off its base by helicopter. It was unexpectedly dunked in the lake because it weighed around 1,000 pounds more than estimated. In the mid 1980's the lighthouse was given solar power lights. The lighthouse is at the northern end of Lake Sunapee. One can see the lighthouse from Lake Sunapee Cruises.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We rented a twenty foot pontoon boat for two hours from Sargents Marina in Georges Mills, NH. We had a great time on the water photographing all three of the lighthouses (Burkehaven, Herrick Cove and Loon Island) on Lake Sunapee.
