Lighthouse Adventures 1998
June 1998 was our first USA lighthouse vacation. For seven days we traveled the coast of CT, RI, and MA. We had a Canon 35 mm camera, bulky VHS video tape camera, paper state maps and an incomplete lighthouse list. When we found a lighthouse we spent only a few minutes taking a pictures and video. Back then we were satisfied if we saw a lighthouse in the distance. Often we didn't even bother walking all the way out to a lighthouse. We drove 1,521 miles and saw 78 New England lighthouses.
Fall of 1998 we had eleven days photographing the New England lighthouses, NH, VT, and ME. We also popped into New Brunswick, Canada for a day. The Lighthouse Depot store in Wells, Maine was awesome! Everything was either about lighthouses or nautical; books, maps, puzzles, replicas, housewares, clothing, nick knacks, and more. The last day we photographed the lighthouses of our home state, NJ. We saw many new lighthouses and a few repeats on our lighthouse vacation. We drove over 3,300 miles.
