This lighthouse on the eastern shore of the Schuylkill River was privately built for $2,663 by Frank Thurwanger. Then in 1902, a new larger building was built to encompass the lighthouse. This boathouse was designed by Arthur H. Brockie.
The #15 boathouse on the historic boathouse row can be rented for private functions and can be lit on special occasions. Across the river is Route 76.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We first saw the Turtle Rock lighthouse on a cloudy day in 2002 and photographed it with our 35 mm camera. Near the end of our lighthouse vacation in 2007 while up in Maine, my digital Nikon 5700 began to have problems. So we came back home to borrow my sister's camera before heading south to Virginia for two lighthouse cruises with the
Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHS.
Photographed it: April 27, 2002 / June 21, 2007
