The lighthouse was originally built on the water’s edge but it’s now 2 blocks from shore due to years of shifting sands. It's fenced in. One has to park by the Sky Harbor Airport at the end of Minnesota Avenue. Then you hike 1 ½ miles one way on a sandy beach path to the Minnesota Point lighthouse. Be on the look out for poison ivy at all times during your three mile round trip trek. As you approaching the lighthouse area you can see in the water on the left the Wisconsin Point light.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
When we parked the car it looked like it was going to rain. We put on our bad sneakers and spring jackets with the hopes of keeping ourselves protected. It was 60° and a little breezy. The poison ivy was supposedly closer to the water, but we saw it on each the side of the path. We had to be careful walking and try not to touch it too much. It took us ¾ hour to get there. We would have liked to go to the beach and take a few shots of the Wisconsin Point light but couldn't take the additional risk. We finally saw Minnesota Point! By the way Christine did get poison ivy on her legs. Then in 2013 we chartered a boat out of Duluth to see this and the Wisconsin Point light.Photographed it: July 28, 2009 / July 10, 2013
