Other Lighthouse Information:
The Colchester Reef light in Vermont was a lighthouse off Colchester Point in Lake Champlain. Electra Havemeyer Webb, the founder of the Shelburne Museum, purchased the lighthouse in 1952. Six men dismantled the lighthouse, took it to Shelburne by barge, and reassembled it in less than a month. The lighthouse was struck by lightning in June 1961, luckily it only had minimal damage. Colchester Reef and Rhode Island's Pomham Rocks and Rose Island are nearly identical lighthouses. The Shelburne Museum consists of 37 buildings including the lighthouse. Next to the lighthouse is the steamship S.S. Ticonderoga. It was built in 1906 and is a fully restored, side-wheel passenger steamer.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
The first time we were here to see the lighthouse we were told we didn't have to pay the museum fee. Years later that changed and now everyone must pay the expensive admittance fee. In 2007 we just took our shots from the road.
