The Coquille River lighthouse is in Bullards Beach State Park. It was vandalized over the years and in 1976 two groups came together to help. The Oregon State Parks and the Army Corps of Engineers replaced bricks, repaired the roof, and painted it. Then it was opened to the public. In 1991 a solar powered light was put in the lantern room. In 2007 $ 600,000 worth of work was done to the exterior to fix the damage done by storms. Next it was painted with the colors that were found under layers of stucco. The townspeople feel the colors are incorrect. There's a non-profit Coquille River Lighthouse Keepers Foundation out there. Often volunteers lead tours of the lighthouse and one can climb the tower. During the holidays one might see the lighthouse decorated with Christmas lights.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
In 2006 we enjoyed hanging out at this lighthouse in the afternoon taking pictures of ourselves on the dune grass covered sand dune beach. While in the town of Bandon, OR we saw the lighthouse across the Coquille River.Photographed it: June 15, 2002 / June 6, 2006
