Other Lighthouse Information:
The Barnegat Lighthouse was designed by Lt. George Meade. It has 217 steps that one can climb. Check their website for their hours. The original 1st Order Fresnel Lens (beehive shaped) is 6 feet in diameter and was formed from 1,024 separate glass prisms and weighing 3 tons. For the Barnegat Lighthouse's 150th birthday there were around 7,000 people there to celebrate on October 11, 2008. Many New Jersey lighthouses, including this one, take part in the annual NJ Lighthouse Challenge.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We've been here a few times over the years and still haven't had the opportunity to climb this tall lighthouse. We hope to rent a boat in the future to view the beautiful lighthouse from the water. We would also love to see the light after a snow fall.
Photographed it: several times, the last visit was on March 20, 2010
