This lighthouse is in an active United States Coast Guard station and the Fort Constitution State Historic Site. After parking one can walk on the marked path to the lighthouse. The United States Light House Establishment-USLHE 1896 bell says Blake Bell Co. Boston, MA on it. Check the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse website for tour dates and times. The Isles of Shoals Steamship Company offers lighthouse boat tours to a few lighthouses.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
On September 26, 2007 we were aboard the Portsmouth Harbor Cruises boat for their 75 minute cruise. We finally got to see the Portsmouth Harbor lighthouse from the water and Maine's Whaleback Ledge upclose. Before Tommy's knee replacement surgery in January 2009 we visited this and a few Southern Maine lighthouses in the snow.
