Other Lighthouse Information:
Half Moon Reef was a hexagonal screw pile lighthouse originally in Matagorda Bay, Gulf of Mexico. This lighthouse was moved twice. It was one of the many screw pile type lighthouses built on the Texas Gulf Coast, but the only one that still stands. It is now in Bay Front Park where it serves as Port Lavaca's visitor center at the end of the causeway on Highway 35.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
After we took our late afternoon pictures of the Half Moon Reef lighthouse we went inside the Visitor's Center. We were told that the past Christmas 2004 (only 3 months earlier) they had a foot of snow. This was their 1st white Christmas in 80-100 years. The snow took a few days to go away. I was shocked to find out that Texas could even have snow. We bought a beautiful post card with the lighthouse surrounded by snow. Notice the United States and Texas flags flying at the lighthouse.
