Other Lighthouse Information:
This tower was originally the Waackaack Front Range Light. Later Conover Beacon worked together with the Chapel Hill Rear Range light to guide mariners through the narrows by way of the Chapel Hill Channel. The lighthouse is not far from the Earl Naval Weapons Station Base. This is the last standing tower of its type in America. It was put on the Lighthouse Digest's Doomsday List.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
When we visit this lighthouse we park on the side of Leonardo Avenue and walk on the public beach. I often remember hearing a barking dog from behind a resident's fence. It was nice to be here after a snow fall. I just had to be careful not to accidently slip off the beach and go into the icy water.
Photographed it: several times, the last visit was on March 31, 2009
