Other Lighthouse Information:
There are a total of 217 steps up the lighthouse, with 199 of those from the tower's spiral staircase. There are a few different locations from where to take your shots; the beach, the pond or the parking area. There is a gift shop and a restroom near the parking lot. Many New Jersey lighthouses, including this one, take part in the annual NJ Lighthouse Challenge. Then for this fall weekend one can climb it at night.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We've been to this lighthouse several times during the summer and winter. We have also seen it from a cruise twice. To see this lighthouse and several other off-shore lights in the Delaware Bay we went on the
Cape May Whale Watcher both times. The first time we motored 80 miles in 4 ½ hours seeing the Cape May, Brandywine Shoal, Fourteen Foot Bank, Miah Maull Shoal, Cross Ledge, Elbow of Cross Ledge and Ship John Shoal lights. The second time we motored for 6 ½ hours seeing all those lights again plus the Harbor of Refuge and Delaware Breakwater lighthouses. We loved these boat trips and even had a buffet lunch with shrimp cocktail and dessert while on the boat. Often when we are here we'll see bird watchers walking around.
Photographed it: several times, the last visit was on January 10, 2011
