Other Lighthouse Information:
To get to the Grand Marais lighthouse one can walk on the breakwater. On shore near the lighthouse is the keeper's house. It's a historical museum managed by the Cook County Historical Society. There used to be two breakwater lighthouses until the west breakwater lighthouse was replaced by a D9 cylinder in the 1960's.
The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
In 2009 we took a few distant shots first and then began our walk on the breakwater after 7:20 pm. At this time the sun was starting to set behind the mountain. Many people walk the breakwater and it's difficult to get a picture without people in your shot. As usual, we didn't know where we would have dinner or sleep. We were supposed to come here again in 2012 but we ran out of time.
