The old lighthouse became the keeper's quarters for the Michigan City East Pierhead light up until 1940. The lighthouse is on Franklin Street and Lakeshore Drive in downtown Michigan City. The Old Lighthouse Museum contains maritime exhibits on Michigan City history. In 1973 the Michigan City Historical Society had the tower and lantern room replicated and put on the house. In 2003 the Hoosier Lighthousing Club rebuilt the spiral stairway.The Lighthouse Hunters Experience:
We've walked to this lighthouse three times. On June 27, 2010, we 83 passengers and 5 crew of the 110 foot Keweenaw Star departed from the Eldean Yacht Club in Holland, MI for our four day Ultimate Southern Lake Michigan Excursion. On our first day of this cruise we photographed 10 lighthouses during our 94 nautical mile steam. We saw a few lighthouses in southern Michigan, most of the Indiana lighthouses, and crossed a Time Zone. At the end of our 7 ¼ hour cruise on Lake Michigan, we were bussed to our hotel in Hammond, IN.
